Coping without a Thyroid

    1. Don't belive everything you read on the internet. There are no magic cures or miracles.
    2. Work with your doctor. They are a busy professionals, with only a few minutes to spend with you. Be prepared and be very specific about what you want from them. But don’t be afraid to change doctors if they don’t seem to be ‘up’ on thyroid issues.
    3. Live a healthy life. Avoid smoking and too much drinking. Eat a healthy diet and try and exercise even though it can be difficult. Make sure you get enough sleep.
    4. Look after your emotional health too. Be aware what makes you feel good and what makes you feel bad and make the choices that you need to make.
    5. Develop hobbies and interests – this helps your mood, stimulates endorphins, distracts you from your troubles and worries and helps you relax.
    6. Be in contact with other thyroid patients especially those who are positive and good at coping, through support organisations.
